Due to the flash flood caused by heavy rains experienced in Metro Manila on June 24 midnight, Cielito Zamora Senior High School faced damage in school facilities and properties.
A four - feet flood almost washed out the first floor of building 3 causing three of its classrooms which accommodates 160 students be vacant.
The flood damaged the office of the principal, registrar and disbursing officer, faculty room, and the school clinic in the first floor of building 4.
Meanwhile, the flood swept the school properties which were the six printers, four desktop computer sets consisting CPU, monitor, keyboard and mouse, three weighing scales, two units of telephone, a CCTV player and monitor, one set stethoscope, and one unit of refrigerator.
Moreover, the flood lost important documents in the principal’s office, school financial reports in the disbursement office, teachers’ files in the faculty room, and medical certificates of teachers submitted to the clinic-teacher for 2019.
The school principal, Dr. Wilhelmina Tarnate said that she has sent a letter to inform the Schools’ Division Office regarding the damage caused by the flood and has asked for possible support system.
Dr. Tarnate said that she has also sent a letter to the Bureau of Fire Protections – Caloocan to ask for immediate response in conducting water flashing operations to clean the affected school areas. She added that she has referred the problem to Caloocan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
According to Dr. Tarnate, the Schools’ Division Office sent an engineer who verified the report and recommended to build a wall replacing the former gate 2.
Dr. Tarnate explained that the engineers and architects who had been in the school to inspect the facilities insisted that the main problem is the school’s poor drainage system.
